Father Miguel Hidalgo and the Mexican Revolution •*Father _________ _________(1753 – 1811) – A Catholic priest that gave the speech that started the Mexican Revolution •1810 – Hidalgo delivered the “Grito de Dolares” speech. •He spoke out against the Spanish and for Independence. •Father Hidalgo is known as the father of the Mexican Revolution •The Revolution was led by ____________ - A group of people with a mixture of European and Indian Ancestry. •They formed a rebel army in Dolores, Mexico. •They were armed with clubs, machetes, clubs, knives, axes, & a few Muskets. •The Rebels recruited new members from ________ going from town to town. •Made up an army of 60,000 men. •After 6 months of war – Father Miguel was captured by the Spaniards and found guilty of heresy & treason. •He was executed but his sacrifice was not in vain. •Mexico became officially independent from Spain – Sept. 28th, 1821.
